Replace a broken part from a photo.
Send photos of the part you need and the sizes you know. Imagine Parts reads what it can from the images, asks about the rest and builds a FreeCAD model you can print.
Start with what you have
Photos from a few angles are a good start. Add a sketch, the sizes you already measured, or an old 3D file (STL, 3MF, OBJ or STEP) if you have one.
A caliper in the photo helps: its reading is picked up from the image.
Questions instead of guesses
If a size can't be read from what you sent, you get a question. This one came up for a GPS mount cover, whose owner wrote: “I want to replicate this piece. It should fit on my car's GPS fitting.”
Imagine PartsIn photo 1, which two surfaces is the 26.6 mm caliper reading measuring?
YouThe distance between the big clip and the two small clips.
Approve every dimension
Before anything is modeled, every size is listed with its source: yours, read from a photo, calculated, or chosen for you where it doesn't matter. If one is wrong, say so: the list is updated and shown to you again before anything is built.
| Overall width | 51.0 mm | read from photo |
|---|---|---|
| Overall length | 57.0 mm | read from photo |
| Small clip width | 7.5 mm | read from photo |
| Gap between small clips | 18.8 mm | read from photo |
| Base thickness | 2.0 mm | chosen for you |
| Rim wall | 1.2 mm | chosen for you |
From the GPS mount cover's review: caliper readings came from the photos.
Built in FreeCAD, checked for printing
- A parametric FreeCAD model, checked after every step.
- A printability report on thin walls, overhangs and supports, shown on the model.
- STEP, the FreeCAD file and a colored 3MF, plus a dimensioned drawing.
Check the fit before you print
Geometry checks don't certify that a part fits or is strong enough. Check the model before you rely on it, especially where a failure could hurt someone or damage something.
If a test print is slightly off, change the dimension and the part is rebuilt without AI or credits, or describe what to change. Earlier revisions are kept.
